Chainsmoke was my first website and was named after the 1996 Fox Racing mountain bike film. The video was the first of it's kind and I was looking for a name for an 'extreme' sports site. I bought the domain in 1997.
Back in 1997 there weren't a lot of good looking sites that didn't cost millions of pounds so with a little effort and some good reviews I was seeing over 100 visitors a day, small numbers now but amazing then.
Fox Racing soon spotted the site and we worked together building a relationship that saw them sponsoring us until the end of 2001. Plenty of other companies got involved at different levels.
By the end of 2001 things had changed on the internet and there was plenty of competition, not many that lasted but enough to dilute the pool. 2001 was the last real year of progress and by the end of 2002 the site closed.
